March 9, 10 & 11. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). General Course.
On this course you can work on your own project. Bring that house you haven’t finished or need to electrify, or the extension you have been planning. You can construct a room box to learn woodworking skills and make furniture from plans and materials that I have here. Classes have only six students, so I have time to show you the power tools and help with your project. No previous experience is needed: you will be surprised at what you can achieve in three days. Cost: £125. (1 place).


March 23, 24 & 25. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Philippa Todd: Chocolates and sweets.
This display will include a wide variety of chocolates, truffles, boiled sweets, sugar mice, sugar “rock” candy canes, Easter eggs and chocolate plaques. You will also learn to make decorative boxes. As well as simple and complex caning, you will learn to use liquid polymer clay, making realistic textures and using moulds.
Cost of course: £150. Cost of materials: £25. (This does not include the shop counter and storage jars, but Philippa can get these for you.). (2 places).

 

March 30 and 31st, April 1st. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) Paul Wells: Decorative tricks and techniques.

June 1, 2 & 3. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Louise Jones: Doll Dressing
Louise has chosen this lovely mother and child, to teach you a variety of techniques.
She will get the same dolls as shown here, although you can bring your own baby if you prefer. You will decide on the hair colour and style, and choose silks, ribbons and other trimmings from a large selection that I have here (or bring your own natural fabrics). The negligée pattern is timeless but both it and the underwear can be adapted to suit any period
Cost: £150. Kits for dolls: mother £18, baby £10, payable on the course. (9 places).


June 22, 23 & 24. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Dave Hurley: Carved Box circa 1660 to 1680
David will bring the hardware, but is also putting together a kit for hinges which includes a new jig that he has developed.
You will be able to make hinges on the course and buy the kit if you like.
Dave provides special carving tools which you can borrow or buy, and he is a wonderful teacher, so no previous experience is required.

August 24, 25 & 26. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). David Hurley: Child’s Carved Bed
The bed has three framed panels, and you will be making dovetail joints as well as learning carving techniques. Dave will be bringing tools and jigs (which you can buy from him) to show you how to make your own hinges. Dave’s carving tools will again be available to borrow or buy. If you have borrowed them on a previous course, please let him know, so he brings enough sets. Cost: £150. Kit for workshop, payable on the course: £30. (Full).


September 7, 8 & 9. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Paul Wells: 1/144th scale house This little house is the basic model for you to adapt to your own design. Paul will also be bringing cottage windows and you can choose a half-timbered version. You can make a landscaped house to go in your dolls house, or a stand alone version with base, for which Paul can order you a glass case. Paul maintains that working in this scale is no different from any other! The house starts with a flat sheet of paper where you make your adaptations. Skills learnt will include watercolour painting, resin casting, weathering and landscaping. £150. Kit for workshop, payable on the course: £10. (3 places).


October 12, 13 & 14. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Jane Alvarez: Artworks for your house Jane believes that everyone is an artist, and this course is suitable for all skill levels. Bring an inspirational image or choose from the many provided on the course, and Jane will show you how to adapt it to your own chosen scale. She will lead you in painting on gesso panels or folding screens, and you can try your hand at trompe l’oeil murals, landscapes and portraits as time allows. I will help you to frame your paintings so you take home completed artwork. £150. Kit for workshop, payable on the course: £10. (9 places).


October 19 to 21. (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Diane Harfield: Exotic Plants Diane’s choice of plants this time includes some new ones that she has developed, including slipper orchid, glory lily, camellia and hibiscus. In some you will use her new cutter for stamens. Although we always try to give this course a specific name, all Diane’s students know that she will help them make any plant of their choice, from dandelion to magnolia. She is a superb teacher and beginners will be thrilled by what they achieve. Cost: £150. Kit for workshop, payable on the course: £15. (4 places).
